"What A Great Place To Wake Up"

The Texas Hill Country. If you have never been here I hope you can make it sometime. There is something about the fresh air, the sunrise over the hills, a horseback ride and a little relaxin' on the back porch.

"Come On Fall Weather"

The summer is pretty much behind us and we are excited about the weather change. I can't wait for that first night we have to move into the main house for a little music around the fireplace, some hot chocolate and of course, smore's.
I wore a light jacket last week around the campfire and it did put a smile on my face as the summer fades into my memory. So you may want to start thinking about commin' on out for some time of relaxation and building some Flying L Ranch memories.

I love this time of year.

Know Who These Guys Are?

We had a great time in the Celebrate Bandera parade. You may recognize Tawni as our head wrangler here at the ranch. Dusty got all dressed up in his bull fighting outfit from the old days.

If you would like to join my facebook you can do that at Buck Shannon or if you would like to see some videos of a little singin' you can find those on u-tube under, buckflyingl.
Thanks for stoppin' by.

"Lucy Lapham"

A 1956 Lincoln 11 was a car supposedly bought for Lucy Lapham. Not sure if it was his daughter or wife of Jack Lapham the owner of the Flying L Ranch at the time. The car is a car that would have been at the ranch during the time John Wayne stayed at the ranch while filming the movie The Alamo.

"The Flying L 1959"

This is a Magazine we recently found of the Flying L Ranch from 1959. The airplane is a Beechcraft Bonanza twin engine airplane which was Col. Lapham's favorite airplane. The airport was in operation from the late 40's until the mid 80's and known as "The Airman's Ranch.

The Col. was known for just flying to the ranch on an afternoon for a swim in the pool and was the owner of the ranch at the time.

" Campfires and Stars"

You know it has been pretty hot around here for quite a while, but there is a time that comes around everyday that just can't be beat. When the sun goes down the stars come out, the campfire flickeres in the faces of the cowhands. Then it is time to break out the old guitar and sing some great old cowboy songs. If you have been to the ranch you know exactly what I am talking about. If you have never sat around that old campfire you need to give it a try.

This is a picture taken the other night by one of our guest.

"Chuck Wagon Dinner and Show"

This week will feature Jody and Bobby Jenkins at the Chuck wagon dinner here at the ranch. Jody and his dad have opened for folks like Garth Brooks, Brooks and Dunn, Willie and always make sure we have a great time.
We start out with a ride to Ghost town and you just might see a bunch of deer on the way.
The Texas Wild Bunch gunslingers are always a big hit and you will probably be greeted with a hold up or the sound of an old fourty five might make you jump out of your seat.
Biscuits are cooked up on the old dutch oven and I'll be there with the Flying L brand to brand hats and the wooden rubber band pistols. You can find a cool drink right through those swingin' doors. We'll do a little ropin'and archery is a lot of fun for the kids.
Then it is time for a little brisket, chicken, corn on the cob, potato salad, beans, cole slaw and I like the cobbler.
You can catch a ride back to the main house for a campfire under the stars, a little campfire music and finish up the night with smore's.
It's a way of life here.

"Back In The Saddle At Ninety-Eight"

It was a big day at the ranch recently when Dorthy brought her mom to the Flying L for a little fun. We all climbed in the ranch wagon for the ride and I was ask by Dorthy's mom who is ninety- eight. "Buck don't you think I should drive the tractor?" Well after a little discussion she finally let me do the driving. Joe Bob took good care of her as she climbed onto the saddle and took a ride right here in the Texas Hill Country.

I hope I can still ride at ninety eight.

"World Champion"

This Tuesday at three we will be dedicating a room at the ranch to Kevin Fitzpatrick. Kevin is the world champion trick roper and has been performing for thirty years. If you have never seen Kevin perform you'll need to make plans to see his show this summer. What a great entertainer.

I hope you can stop by for this great event.
